A writer in the making...

Kelsey Anna seems to be taking after her father in writing. She LOVES to write. We have gads of papers with started stories, poems and even comics. She even has a book started on her laptop that I'm told is very funny. This spring she brought home a book of poems from school she had written. They learned all about different kinds of poems. I found this one amongst her papers which wasn't even one of the chose published, but I really do like it a lot.

Fairies
Shhhhh!
Listen. Fairies!
Why fairies you say?
Because the sound it makes.
A certain sound like...
A wind chime
Ching Chingle Ching
A bird
Tweet tweetle tweet
A fairy sound
Ding ding ding ding
So if you walk in the woods listen for them.
Those fairies.

That's BEAUTIFUL! Okay, I was an English major, and teaching writing to kids is something I love. Please tell Kelsey that she should keep writing, that writing is like using a muscle, and she should try to write for just ten minutes a day. Maybe you can get her her own little writing journal or something. She shouldn't worry about *what* she's writing, but just try to get into the habit of writing a little every day so that the ideas keep coming. My little sister (who is 12) loves to write, and often asks us to "give her a topic." We'll say anything that comes to mind - something we see outside, a made up character, whatever, and she'll just start writing. She comes up with the best stuff.

I love that Kelsey didn't try to put that in a certain "form", that it's rather impressionistic. It's very creative. Please encourage her to keep writing; she obviously got some talent!

I agree with Arielle, it's very good and shows a creativity that is beyond her years.

If I could only LIMIT her to 10 minutes a day! LOL...seriously though convincing her to write for 10 minutes a day would be like convincing her she should eat an ice cream cone. I don't even have to ask. She loves to write and loves to research her stuff. Last night she informed me she's writing a book called "The Wonders of Christ our Lord" and she is creating an outline and everything, scripture quotes and all. I can't wait to see it!
We start homeschooling and I love Charlotte Mason theories which uses notebooks for each subject and lots of narration. Both girls love that as well.

Wait, did you mean you started homeschooling? Or will start in the future? Either way, that's so exciting! I'm a huge fan of homeschooling (my mom's a homeschool consultant), and I know it's something you've wanted to do for a long time.

Yes, last Monday was the last day of public school (God willing!). We look forward to the girls being home now and they do too. And we will add Nicholas to the schooling crowd now too.
