"A Mother's Rule of Life" revisited

It has been almost 3 years since I first read "A Mother's Rule of Life: How to Bring Order to Your Home and Peace to Your Soul" by Holly Pierlot. I blogged about in February and March of 2006! Wow! Where on earth does the time go? When I read the book back then I REALLY needed it. I was looking for something to help me "bring order" to my home and life. It didn't stick. I raved about the book. I thought it was the "cure". Well, things didn't go the way I had hoped. But the I think the problem was that I was looking for a "cure", a quick fix, a magic pill. But really there is NEVER such a thing.

As life goes now I feel I never read the book. I'm back where I was 3 years ago. So I've dusted it off and I am starting over. This time I have a little bit more determination, a tiny bit more mature, maybe. It really is a little difficult to explain, but I feel that I've come to a place where I can see that this is really the only answer to what I am looking for. I feel that I've been searching for something over the years, something to "fix" my hurdles I face each day. Well, I'm finally seeing that what is going to "fix" it all is ME. It will take work, but I'm the only one who can change what needs to be different and only with God's help!! His Grace and His Mercy! His Guidance and Love!
So with a new determination, a new focus (GOD), I move forward to create my "Rule of Life" based on the vocation God has given me.

It is hard to make those things stick, I know. Prayers.

It is like any other struggle in life, we fall, we get up again, we fall, we get up again. We only fail when we refuse to get up again! I really love MROL, and I was moved to pick it up again this year because I was neglecting several areas of life - getting my P's out of order - and it was beginning to really hurt my relationships (funny how we moms tend to put the parent and partner roles first, and think that is the right thing to do, then realize later when we don't take care of the first two P's we cannot possible succeed in the other areas). I encourage you as you struggle to reevaluate - and gain some strength in knowing others are out there going through the same struggle!

I read this and with all my energy which is zapped some days, we do our best to keep the schedule. One thing I can tell you since following the book, I no longer clean my house...each child has an obedience. I simply delegate and ahh...drink my coffee :D
Now, if only I put the first P to practice...Prayer

Thank you for the encouragement, SWMBO. :)

Mka. Kelleylynn,
Please share with me how you've established this chore system. I am really struggling with this. Probably mostly because I'm lazy myself and don't follow through but I could use some advice. Email me privately if you'd like, I'd really like to talk more about it.

I will definitely look into this book. As far as everything else, I agree with Mimi, prayer is the one thing that will help.

email anytime or call me...seriously, I'd love to talk to you :D Could use some tips from you since you are doing what FDR and I long for...maybe a scale down. A little intimidated by raising larger animals bigger than chickens and ducks. I'd love an Orchard, grape vines, etc...a whole walk-in garden :) Anyway email me...KBarberg@aol.com
